The state-owned Yemeni company, Masila Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (PetroMasila), has ordered a GE TM2500 aeroderivative gas turbine. With a capacity of 34 MW as per international standards organization guidelines, this mobile power unit will be set up at Block 14 in the Hadramout region to facilitate oil exploration and extraction processes.
The TM2500 gas turbine will employ flared gas, reducing diesel consumption and supporting PetroMasila's power generation objectives. Once connected to the local grid, more than half of the electricity generated by the unit will be distributed to the grid, mitigating power outages experienced by Yemeni households. Slated for commercial operation in 2023, the turbine will address grid instability in a country facing eight years of damaged power generation infrastructure.
